Sri Lanka – two new hydropower plants commissioned

HPP Ankanda: GUGLER Water Turbines has successfully commissioned the new hydropower plant Ankanda at Matale in September 2018, consisting of two open flume type Kaplan Turbines, designed for a net head of 12.50 m and flow of 33 m3/s, generating in total almost 7.6 MW.

Additionally GUGLER delivered the generators,gear boxes,hydraulic power units,control and protection equipment as well as the detail design for the gates and trash rake, the latter were manufactured locally.

Ankanda is the second project which has been successfully completed for Escas Power (Private) Limited after the commissioning of two similar Kaplan open flume turbines for 3.4 MW Owala hydropower plant three years earlier.

HPP Denipalle Oya: consisting of one (1) vertical Pelton turbine with six nozzles, synchronous generator, butterfly valve, HPU and related control and protection systems for Denipalle Oya hydropower plant, designed for a net head is 120 m and flow of 1.05 m3/s,resulting in an installed capacity of  1118 kW.

The plant was successfully put in operation in May 2019.
