Moco Moco Hydropower Restored

GUGLER Water Turbines is proud to announce the successful restoration and enhancement of the Moco Moco Hydropower Plant in Guyana. Originally commissioned in 1999, the plant was damaged by a landslide in 2003 and had been out of service since then. Following its rehabilitation, the plant is now fully operational, with its capacity increased from 0,5 MW to 0,7 MW to meet the growing energy needs of the region.

The Moco Moco is located on the Moco Moco Creek, part of the Amazon River system, features a high net head of 206,9 meters and a flow rate of 0,22 m³/s. The plant operates with two horizontal Pelton turbines, each designed for high efficiency in challenging conditions. With turbines running at 1 200 rpm, the plant now provides reliable, renewable energy to the Lethem area.
