Na An Project Successfully Completed

Vietnam’s demand for electricity has been rising rapidly in recent years, driven by strong economic growth and the country’s commitment to clean energy. Hydropower plays a key role in this development and GUGLER is proud to contribute with another successful project: the commissioning of the Na An hydropower plant.

Expanding GUGLER’s footprint in Vietnam

Na An is already the 11th project that GUGLER has completed in Vietnam. Underlining our long-term presence and strong local partnerships. The Na An is located close to the Nam Be 2 hydropower plant, another GUGLER reference equipped with two Francis turbines and a total capacity of 11,5 MW. Together, these plants highlight how modern hydropower contributes to reliable electricity supply in the region.

Technical Highlights

Flow rate: 43,20 m³/s

Net head: 13,20 m

Installed capacity: 10 400 kW

The Na An hydropower plant is equipped with two vertical Kaplan shaft turbines. Each rated at 5,2 MW with a net head of 13,2 meters and a design discharge of 43,2 m³/s per unit. The plant reaches a total installed capacity of over 10 MW. This clean energy output is sufficient to supply thousands of households and industries with reliable, renewable electricity.

Scope of supply

GUGLER’s scope of supply for Na An included two Kaplan turbines (runner Ø 2.85 m), along with generators, hydraulic power units (HPU) and gearboxes.

This comprehensive package ensures smooth integration, high efficiency, and long-term operational reliability under the site’s demanding hydrological conditions. Kaplan open flume turbines are particularly well suited for medium-head projects with large water volumes.

Engineering and commissioning

The successful commissioning of Na An reflects GUGLER’s philosophy of “Liquid Energy – Solid Engineering.” From the initial design and engineering phase to project management, installation, and final testing. Every step was carried out in close cooperation with our partners. The result is a hydropower plant optimized for sustainable performance and decades of reliable operation.

Clean energy for Vietnam

By harnessing hydropower, Na An supports Vietnam’s renewable energy targets, helps reduce CO₂ emissions, and strengthens local energy independence. At the same time, for GUGLER, this project is another example of how innovative hydropower technology can create tangible benefits for communities, while contributing to the global shift towards sustainable energy.

With Na An, GUGLER continues to expand its presence in Asia and remains committed to delivering efficient, reliable, and sustainable hydropower solutions worldwide. Discover more of our hydropower projects.
