21 MW of Renewable Power: Anashironi Hydropower Project Completed

GUGLER Water Turbines GmbH is proud to announce the successful completion and commissioning of the Anashironi Hydropower Plant in Peru.

The new facility marks a major expansion of the existing Renovandes H1 plant, adding an entirely new turbine-generator unit that operates as an independent hydropower station under the name Anashironi.

Located at around 600 m, the project takes advantage of the steep terrain. The abundant water resources of the region are ideally suited for high‑head Pelton technology.

By connecting the new unit to the existing water conveyance system of Renovandes H1. The project maximizes the potential of the site while avoiding the need for extensive new civil works. This makes Anashironi not only a powerful addition to Peru’s renewable energy network but also an example of efficient, sustainable hydropower development.

Technical Highlights

Flow rate: 7,85 m³/s

Net head: 302,9 m

Installed capacity: 21,175 MW

At the core of the Anashironi hydropower plant is a vertical, 5‑jet Pelton turbine. Engineered specifically for high‑head, medium‑flow applications. With a runner diameter of 1 755 mm and 19 precisely machined buckets, the turbine ensures optimal energy conversion and stable operation across a wide range of load conditions.

The turbine is paired with a 23 MVA synchronous generator, complete with a dedicated lubrication system and advanced water cooling to ensure long‑term reliability in demanding operational environments. GUGLER supplied a hydraulic power unit, spherical main inlet valve, and full auxiliary systems as part of the electromechanical package.

To integrate the new generation capacity into the national grid. The project includes two large transformers for the Santa Ana and Campas substations.

The Anashironi Hydropower Plant is more than extra megawatts on the grid. It is a strategic investment in clean, reliable power for the Junín region. Reducing dependence on fossil fuels and contributing  to Peru’s long‑term energy security.

By leveraging existing infrastructure, the project minimized environmental impact. As a result, it delivers maximum output – a key consideration in hydropower development. The ability to expand capacity without new dams underlines the value of smart engineering. Furthermore, it shows the benefits of sustainable planning.

Strengthening GUGLER’s Footprint in Peru

With Anashironi now fully operational, this marks the eighth hydropower project delivered by GUGLER in Peru. Therefore, it strengthens our presence in the region. Our long‑standing presence in the country and proven track record of high‑performance Pelton installations were decisive factors in being awarded this contract.

Projects like Anashironi not only support the country’s renewable energy goals but also showcase GUGLER’s expertise in designing and delivering tailor‑made solutions for challenging sites.
