Small-scale hydroelectric power plant completed in Asahi Town
Annual electricity sales income of 46 million yen are expected. The profit to be used to improve the local water supply system.
A small-scale hydroelectric power plant, which was constructed to finance the improvement of the water supply in the Sasagawa district of Asahi Town, has been completed.
The completion ceremony was attended by about 50 people from the prefecture and the town, who celebrated the completion of the power plant with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
The power plant generates electricity from the 81.6 meter drop of the Sasa River and sells it to an electric power company. The annual revenue is expected to be approximately 46 million yen, and the profits will be used to improve the simple water supply system in the Sasagawa area.
The total project cost is approximately 785 million yen. The power plant is the first of its kind in Japan, and is operated by a Miyagi Prefecture construction company established in Asahi-machi in cooperation with a Gifu Prefecture trust company to raise funds to maintain the local water supply system. The power of the installed turbine is 206 kW.
