Project with Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB) kicked off

The aging power plant Obervellach is being replaced by a new, more powerful power plant. GUGLER will supply a 1.6 MW Pelton turbine in the Kaponigbach pipeline.

The three-nozzle Pelton turbine is designed for a head of 211 m and a flow rate of 0.9 m³ / s and should thus safely and reliably cover the station supply of the 37 MW traction power plant Obervellach II, which is currently under construction.

For the Kaponigbach hydropower plant, GUGLER supplies the Pelton turbine, generator, ball valve, hydraulic unit and a bypass system with shut-off devices, as well as all the electrical- and control-equipment.

Construction began at the end of December 2020. The completion of the project, which is to produce 125 gigawatt hours (GWh) of clean energy for the rail network annually, is planned for 2023.
