May 2009 – Follow-up orders from Latvia, Spain and Albania
1) Latvia:
Due to the below mentioned orders Gugler Water Turbines is able to consolidate its leading market position within the Baltic Countries:
HPP Trikata : one (1) vertical Kaplan turbine with belt drive featuring an output of 105 kW for a net head of 2.3 m and a discharge of 5 m3/s.
HPP Karlu : one (1) vertical Kaplan turbine with direct coupled generator featuring an output of 391 kW for a net head of 7.5 m and a discharge of 6 m3/s.
HPP Ozolkrasti : one (1) vertical Kaplan turbine with direct coupled generator featuring an output of 90 kW for a net head of 6 m and a discharge of 1.68 m3/s.
2) Spain:
The company RH Global which operates small hydropower plants in Spain and Portugal awards Gugler Water Turbines the contract for the design of the HPP Sardon consisting of two vertical Kaplan turbines which are coupled to the generator via speed increasers.
The output of the turbines is 750 kW each at a net head of 3.8 m and a discharge of 22 m3/s.
3) Albania:
The contract with the Company Koka & Ergi Energy Peshk for the delivery and erection of two Francis turbines including the entire electromechanical equipment for the HPP Peshku enters into force.
The installed output of the hydropower plant is 3.7 MW; the net head and the discharge amount to 110 m each respectively 1.89 m3/s.
The commissioning is scheduled for summer 2010.
July / August 2009 – Major orders from Turkey
Successful commissioning in Iraq
1) Turkey:
The intensified marketing activities throughout the Turkish hydropower market are recompensed by two further orders awarded to Gugler Water Turbines by the following companies:
a) Bükor Elektrik Üretim with an order for the supply of three (3) horizontal Kaplan turbines, generators and speed increasers each including the appertaining control and automation systems of the HPP Darca featuring an installed output of 10.8 MW.
The HPP Darca is the first of several hydropower plants scheduled to be implemented in the region of Adapazari by the investors of this company.
The net head and the discharge are 9 m respectively 45m3/s.
The commissioning is scheduled for autumn 2010.
b) Melita Elektrik Üretim with an order for the supply of one horizontal, two-nozzled Pelton turbines including the entire appertaining electromechanical equipment of the hydropower plant Sancar featuring an output of 750 kW.
The net head is 167 m with a discharge of 0.5 m3/s.
The hydropower plant will be erected near the city of Adana in the south-eastern part of Turkey.
2) Iraq:
Gugler Water Turbines successfully commissioned the two Francis turbines with an output of 670 kW each provided for the hydropower project Erbil situated in the self-governed Kurd region of northern Iraq. This project was sponsored by the Korean Government and implemented under the guidance of the Korean main contractor, the company K-Water.
The net head is 60 m with a discharge of 1.25 m3/s.
The hydropower plant provides all electric energy from renewable sources for the touristic resort under construction in the mountains, near the city of Erbil.


September 2009 – Further order from Latin America
Successful commissioning in Norway
Gugler Water Turbines, a global supplier of hydropower turbines for small scaled hydropower plants up to 10 MW, continuously expands its activities in Latin America and is awarded the following contracts:
1) Chile:
Ror the supply of one vertical, 4-nozzled Pelton turbine with an output of 611 kW
including the appertaining electromechanical equipment. The awarding authority is the company AquaGen As, which runs a salmon-breeding farm in the southern part of Chile.
The net head is 98 m with a discharge of 0.7 m3/s.
2) Honduras:
For the supply of one horitzontal, two-nozzled Pelton turbine with an output of 1 MW including the appertaining generator, hydraulic power unit and butterfly valve. The awarding company is our co-operation partner, the company Elecnor.
The net head is 230 m with a discharge of 0.5 m3/s. This hydropower plant named Rio Quilio is part of the project La Guaree,financed by the European Union.
Norway: the Francis turbine featuring an output of 215 kW for the Hatlemark Hydropower Project in Ikornnes is commissioned successfully – vide following photos.

October 2009 – Successful deliveries to Portugal
Orders from EdF in France
1) Portugal:
After the successful workshop tests effected in the presence of the end-customer’s, EDIA, representatives and our Portuguese co-operation partner, Efacec Engenharia SA, the turbines for the Projects Alvito (2 vertical Kaplan turbines with 1875 kW output each), Odivelas (one Francis turbine with 2590 KW output) and Roxo (one Francis turbine with 1700 kW output) were approved and subsequently delivered.

2) France:
Electricite de France (EdF), the largest utility group in Europe, awards Gugler Water Turbines the contract for the supply and assembly of turbines, generators and butterfly valves for the following existing hydropower plants, which are being refurbished:
HPP Beaumont Monteux (1 horizontal Kaplan turbine with 1572 kW output)
HPP Castelet (2 Francis turbines with 1268 kW output each )
HPP Greoux and Chaudanne (1 Francis turbine each with 800 kW resp.1380 kW output)
3) Sri Lanka:
The Hydropower Plant Branford Pvt. Ltd. Belonging to the Ace Power Group awards Gugler Water Turbines the contract for the supply of two (2) vertical Kaplan turbines with speed increasers coupled synchronous generators including the appertaining turbine control. The installed output of the HPP Branford is 2, 8 MW at a net head of 5,5 m and a discharge of 27,7 m3/s each.
November 2009 – Gugler Water Turbines wins the Export Prize
Out of more than 300 candidates Gugler Water Turbines was awarded the first prize in the Export category at this year’s GEWINN –Entrepreneur-Contest which was organized for the twentieth time by the Business Magazine, GEWINN.
The winner cheque amounting to EURO 4.000,00 sponsored by the Industrialists’ Association was handed over to our Managing Director, Mr. Alois Gugler MSc. Eng., by the General Secretary Dr. Markus Beyrer and the Federal Minister of Economy, Dr. Reinhold Mitterlehner.

December 2009 – Commissioning of the drinking water hydropowerplant in Germany
Gugler Water Turbines successfully commissions the Francis turbine with an output of 350 kW designed for the potable water plant Neuplatendorf. The commissioning of the Francis turbine with an output of 510 kW for the potable water plant Endorf is scheduled for January 2010. The awarding authority of these projects is the water utility company Fernwasserversorgung Elbaue-Ostharz GmbH,
