November 2008 – Further contract awards from Norway
1) Norway is worldwide the only country which gains its electric energy almost to 100 % from hydro power. The Norwegian clientele is known to be very quality-conscious and has been acquiring for many years now Gugler turbines.
The company Fitjar Laks who operates a salmon farm in Norway had revision works done on their already existing hydropower plant equipped with Francis turbine. In the course of these revision works all the required turbine components were supplied by the company Gugler Water Turbines Ltd.
For Hatlemark Kraftverk AS we have obtained an order for the supply of a Francis turbine with an output of 215 kW as well as for the generator. Net head is 43.7 m with a discharge of 550 l/s.
2) Bulgaria: A vertical Francis turbine with an output of 1400 kW together with all the related electro-mechanical equipment was successfully commissioned at the large-scale hydropower plant Studen Kladenets belonging to the state-owned utility NEK. This turbine is employed to use the ecological flow of the hydropower plant. The actual output values were higher than the guaranteed values stipulated in the contract. The turbine distinguishes itself also in a very quite running in the low range of the part-load.

December 2008 – Drinking water hydropower plants to be delivered to Germany
Germany is surely a precursor with regard to renewable energy. It possesses maybe the most progressive and up-to-date Green Electricity Sources Act which was and is for some countries an inspiring example to pass relevant laws to this effect.
China, India and Brazil lastly passed similar laws for the promotion of renewable energy, to which the small hydropower plants belong.
The latest increase of the feed-in tariff leads to a series of new projects in the range of small-scaled hydropower plants. Due to the very good reputation which characterises the high-quality Gugler turbines, the lion’s share of these projects were awarded to the us.
The below mentioned are amongst these projects:
- Drinking water hydropower plants for Endorf and Neuplatendorf:
The company Fernwasserversorgung Elbaue-Ostharz GmbH , responsible for supplying the city of Leipzig and surroundings with drinking water now replaces the existing pressure reducer valves with one Francis turbine each, featuring 510 kW (for 128 m head and 450 l/s discharge) and 350 KW (for 52.5 m head and 750 l/s discharge).
We have been awarded the order to supply the entire electromechanical equipment for both of these drinking water hydropower plants including the switchboards and automation system, scheduled to be completely assembled and commissioned in autumn 2009.
In the last couple of years we have delivered a series of drinking water hydropower plants. The choice of the right materials together with our special turbine design prevents a soiling of the drinking water.
- HPP Nussdorf: A small-scaled hydropower plant is now being erected in the vicinity of Munich. For this Gugler Water Turbines has been awarded the tender for the supply of one Francis turbine with an output of 28 kW together with all the required switchboards and controls.
- HPP Johannisstrasse: We were awarded an order for the supply, assembly and commissioning of one Kaplan turbine featuring an output of 170 kW (net head 1.98 m with a discharge of 9.7 m³/s) as well as for the appertaining switchboards, automation, hydraulic steel structures such as sluice gates and trash rakes. This project is located in the eastern part of Germany nearby the city of Zschopau.
We thank all our clients, suppliers and staff for the good teamwork and co-operation and for a successful year 2008. The order intake and turnover could be increased by more than 50 % compared to the year before. Due to full order books we look ahead with optimism to the year 2009.
January / February 2009 – Deliveries accomplished successfully
1) Deliveries to Norway and Colombia:
One Francis turbine with an output of 1870 kW including generator, butterfly valve and hydraulic power unit were supplied and installed by us for the new hydropower plant Madland situated nearby the city of Stavanger in Norway.

Workshop assembling of the turbine Francis runner
We also delivered one month ahead of schedule one horizontal Francis turbine including generator and butterfly valve featuring an installed output of 1350 kW to the hydropower plant Santa Rita which is being built by Generadora Union SA between the cities of Cali and Medellin in Colombia.

Complete workshop assembling Francis runner – dynamically balanced
2) New contract for hydropower plant for waste water in Romania:
Gugler Water Turbines Ltd. was awarded the order for the supply, installation and commissioning of one Francis turbine with an output of 210 kW together with the generator, control system and switchboards for the waste water treatment station of the city of Botosani in Romania.
March 2009 – Major contract from India for 9 MW HPP
Together with our Indian partner, the company Sarda Eco Power Ltd, we are erecting
the turn-key projects Myntriang I and Myntriang II for the state-owned ASSAM POWER GENERATION Corporation Limited .
For this Gugler Water Turbines Ltd. is scheduled to supply four (4) Francis turbines
(two for 3 MW each and two for 1.5 MW each) together with all the generators, butterfly valves, turbine control systems and automation.
Myntriang I features a net head of 191 m with a discharge of 1.85 m³/s per unit.
Myntriang II has a net head of 64 m with a discharge of 2.85 m³/s per unit.
Both hydropower plants are scheduled to be commissioned in summer 2010.
April 2009 - Further contracts from Asia
1) from Korea: we will supply the hydropower plant Pangyo with two (2) Kaplan turbines with belt drive featuring an output of 300 kW each.
2) from India: the company Mahati Power has awarded us with the contract for the design and supply of one (1) Kaplan bulb turbine with gearbox for the hydropower plant Veer. The 5-blade Kaplan turbine features an output of 5100 kW at a net head of 17 m and a discharge of 34 m³/s.
The hydropower plant is scheduled to be commissioned in summer 2010.
3) from the Philippines: we have obtained an order for the supply of the entire electromechanical equipment for the hydropower plant Uddiawan (1800 kW installed output) which will be erected north of the capital city Manila by the company Smith Bell Mini Hydro Corp. Both of the horizontal Francis turbines are designed for a net head of
92 m and a discharge of 1.15 m³/s.
May 2009 – Drinking water hydropower plants for Chile
The company Enernuevas S.A. has been awarded Gugler Water Turbines with the contract for the supply of the entire electromechanical equipment for the hydropower plants El Toro 2 and Alto Hospicio in Chile.
These hydropower plants will be erected along the existing drinking water pipeline which supplies the city of Iquique with drinking water from the Andes.
Each site will obtain one (1) vertical, 3-nozzled Pelton turbine featuring an output of 1180 kW respectively 1170 kW.
At the site El Toro 2 the net head is 177 m with a discharge of 750 l/s.
At the site Alto Hospicio the net head is 175 m with a discharge of 750 l/s.
Both hydropower plants are scheduled to be commissioned by middle of 2010.
