New contracts from France
1) The company Serhy awards Gugler Water Turbines GmbH a contract for the small hydropower plant Saint Aventin which will be erected in southern France in the Pyrenees.
The scope of supply comprises a Francis Turbine with an output of 1500 kW including synchronous generator, hydraulic unit and butterfly valve.
The site features a net head of 60 m with a discharge of 2,8 m³.
The commissioning is scheduled for summer 2011.
2) Gugler Water Turbines GmbH was awarded a new contract by the largest power company in Europe, Electricité de France (EdF) for the supply of one (1) double regulated Kaplan Spiral Turbine for the hydropower project Palisse. The power station will be erected near St. Etienne de Cantalès.
The six-blade Kaplan Spiral Turbine is designed for a net head of 26 m with a discharge of 11,5 m³/s and will render an output of 2678 kW.
Apart from the turbine Gugler Water Turbines will also supply and install the generator, the hydraulic unit and butterfly valve.
Leading Market Position in Bulgaria
Due to an additional contract awards Gugler Water Turbines GmbH was able to strengthen still further its leading market position in Bulgaria.
HPP Elena: for this new hydropower plant Gugler Water Turbines GmbH will supply one (1) vertical Kaplan Pit Turbine with gear drive, generator, hydraulic unit and the appertaining turbine control system.
The turbine will generate 708 kW at a net head of 4 m with a discharge of 20 m³/s.
The commissioning of the hydropower plant is scheduled for autumn 2011.
HPP Kaleto: the two Francis Turbines with an output of 2310 KW and 410 KW were successfully commissioned. Gugler Water Turbines GmbH delivered this hydropower plant to the company Assarel on a turn-key basis supplying likewise the complete electromechanical equipment.
Turkey – a significant market for Gugler Water Turbines GmbH
HPP Gelincik: The company BND Elektrik Üretim from Istanbul awarded Gugler Water Turbines GmbH the contract for the supply of two (2) Francis Turbines with an output of 3000 kW each, together with the appertaining generator, butterfly valve, hydraulic unit and turbine control system.
This hydropower plant, which is situated in the region of the Black Sea near Trabzon, features a net head of 150 m with a discharge of 5 m³/s.
The commissioning is scheduled for end of 2011.
HPP Sancar: for this project Gugler Water Turbines GmbH provided the company Melita Elektrik Üretim from Adana the entire electromechanical equipment consisting of one two-jet, horizontal Pelton Turbine, generator, butterfly valve, hydraulic unit, control system, electrical equipment and transformer.
The Pelton Turbine generates 750 kW at a net head of 166 m and a flow of 500 l/s.

Completely assembled turbine at factory
HPP Darca: Gugler Water Turbines GmbH provided the electromechanical equipment consisting of three (3) horizontal Kaplan Split Turbine with 3600 kW each including the appertaining generators, gear drives and hydraulic units for the run-of-river Hydropower Plant Darca near the city of Bilecik in Turkey, which is still under construction
The erection of this hydropower plant with a total output of near to 11 MW is far advanced and shall be commissioned in the 1st quarter of 2011.
First order in Bosnia-Hergezovina
The company Interenergo from Slovenia, a subsidiary of the company Kelag,
awarded Gugler Water Turbines GmbH the order for supply, installation and commissioning of two (2) Francis Turbines with an output of 3575 kW and 1850 kW including the appertaining synchronous generators, butterfly valves and hydraulic unit for the hydropower plant Novakovici.
This new hydropower plant will be erected in Bosnia-Herzegovina and is scheduled to be commissioned in autumn 2011.
Successful start ups
1) in Switzerland :
a) One (1) Pelton Turbine with an output of 360 kW was successfully commissioned for the new hydropower plant of the Municipality of Nufenen. The net head at this site is 336 m.
b) Gugler Water Turbines GmbH supplied the hydraulic steel structures for the hydropower plant Zeughausbrücke belonging to the Municipality of Frauenfeld.

2) in Albania : Gugler Water Turbines GmbH furnished two (2) Pelton Turbines with an output of 1250 kW each on a turn-key basis for the hydropower plant Bishnica 2 which has now been successfully commissioned.

3) in Portugal: the two hydropower plants Alvito, consisting of two (2) vertical Kaplan Turbines with an output of 1875 kW each and Odivelas, consisting of one (1) Francis Turbine with an output of 2500 kW were successfully commissioned.

Turkey – Major order for Gugler Water Turbines
Asa Enerjil Ltd awarded Gugler Water Turbines GmbH a turn-key contract for the supply of two (2) six-jet Pelton Turbines with an output of 5000 KW each for the Hydropower Plant Telli. This entirely new hydropower plant will be erected in the northern part of Turkey on the Black Sea coast and is scheduled to be put into operation by the end of 2011.
The net head is 197 m with a discharge of 2,875 m³/s per turbine.
Successful Start-ups
1) in Portugal: one Francis Turbine with an output of 1700 kW for the Hydropower Plant Roxo was successfully commissioned in December 2010.

2) in Switzerland : Gugler Water Turbines supplied all the gates for the hydropower plant Susasca and successfully commissioned the latter.
3) Philippines: the first of two Francis Turbines with an output of 934 kW each was successfully put into operation. The inauguration of the hydropower plant Uddiawan with major media presence took place on the 8th December.
4) in Romania : the three (3) horizontal Kaplan Turbines as well as the inlet gates supplied for the new sewage treatment plant of the city of Bucharest were successfully put into operation. After its purification the waste water is fed into the new hydropower plant prior flowing into the nearby river.

At this year’s GEWINN – Jungunternehmer-Wettbewerb (Entrepreneur-Contest) organized and held by the business magazine GEWINN for the 21st time Gugler Water Turbines GmbH was awarded the 2nd place in the overall ranking out of more than 300 participants. The winner cheque in the amount of EUR 5.000,00 was handed over to our managing director, Ing. Mag. Alois Gugler, by Dr. Rainer Hauser (Member of the Board of Directors of the UniCredit Bank Austria) in the presence of the Federal Minister of Economy, Dr. Reinhold Mitterlehner and the Federal Minister of Environment, Mag. Niki Berlakovich.
New orders for drinking water system in Colombia
Gugler Water Turbines GmbH was awarded two contracts about the supply of one Francis Turbine each, including associated electromechanical equipment for the drinking water system of Colombia’s capital Bogota.
Currently the high pressure in the water pipelines is being destroyed in so called pressure reducing valves before the drinking water will be provided to the eight million consumers. In future the two Francis Turbines will substitute those valves and the prevailing water pressure will be converted into electric energy.
The technical data of the two hydropower plants will be as follows:
HPP Usaquen: (1) Francis Turbine for a net head of 71,5 m and a flow of 2,85 m³/s will generate green energy of 1810 kW.
HPP Suba: (1) Francis Turbine for a net head of 52,5 m and a flow of 5,65 m³/s will generate green energy of 2650 kW.
